Page history last edited by benignim@... 1 yr ago

iTunes is what as known as a podcast aggregator. All this means is that it is software that allows you to locate podcasts and save them within iTunes. Once you have subscribed to a podcast, iTunes will automatically check the site and download the newest podcasts to your iTunes. You can also listen to or view audio/video podcasts within iTunes.

You must have the following:

Locating a Podcast in iTunes

  • Open iTunes
  • From the left-hand navigation, click on iTunes Store (note, you must have an internet connection for this to work).

  • Now, in the main window locate the iTunes STORE navigation and click on Podcasts

  • You can now search for a topic within the podcasts by typing in the Search iTunes Store area or you can browse by topic by clicking on the topic under CATEGORIES.

  • When you locate a podcast that looks interesting, click on it to open the podcast's window.
  • From here you can
    • Listen to only one episode by clicking on the episode in the lower window.
    • Download individual episodes by clicking on the Get Episode in the lower window.
    • Subscribe to the podcast, which will cause iTunes to automatically download all current episodes as well as any new episodes when they become available (see "Subscribing to a Podcast in iTunes")

Subscribing to a Podcast in iTunes

  • Locate a podcast using the steps aboved.
  • Click on the podcast to open that podcast's window.
  • Click on the Subscribe button in the top area of the main window. NOTE: most podcasts are free. The cost will be noted next to the subscribe button.
  • A confirmation window will appear. From this window, click Subscribe.
  • You can change the amount of episodes that download and how many are kept on your machine by changing the podcast settings in iTunes:
    • Click on the iTunes Preferences from the menu (Mac: iTunes > Preferences | Window: Edit > Preferences)
    • Click on the Podcasts tab or icon.
    • From here you can choose how often to check for new episodes, what to do with new episodes when they are found and how many to keep.
    • When done, click OK.

Deleting/Unsubscribing to a Podcast in iTunes

If you no longer want the podcast to come to your computer you can unsubscribe and delete them.

  • From your personal iTunes LIBRARY click on Podcasts. This takes you to the area of iTunes where your downloaded podcasts are kept.
  • Single-click on the podcast you want to unsubscribe and click on UNSUBSCRIBE at the bottom of the window.
  • To delete them, single-click on the podcast and press the delete key on the keyboard.
