What is an RSS Feed

Page history last edited by benignim@... 3 mos ago

An RSS feed (Really Simple Syndication) is a method of delivering regularly changing web content.  Many websites, such as blog, wikis, flickr, facebook, and news sites use RSS feeds to help their readers stay up to date on all the changes.

What are the benefits of using RSS feeds?

Subscribing to an RSS feed allows you to easily stay up-to-date on all the changes to your favorite websites by retrieving the latest content from the sites and delivering it to you in the form of an RSS reader (a.k.a an aggregator).  It allows you to save time by not needing to go to each site on a regular basis.  There are many ways to subscribe to RSS feeds including Facebook, iGoogle, Google or Yahoo Reader or you can even have them delivered to you via email.

Here's an example of RSS feeds displayed on an iGoogle page

You'll notice that this page is currently displaying the headlines from 9 different websites, allowing you to keep up with all these sites in one place without visiting each site.  When a new post is added it is delivered directly to you so you're never out of touch.
